Who will be our next president?

As current Foursquare President Glenn Burris Jr.’s two terms are coming to an end, a new president will be elected at Foursquare Connection 2019 in Nashville, Tenn. While the new president won’t actually take office until September 2020, the Foursquare bylaws call for an early election to allow time for the next president to transition from their current assignment and learn the office of president. The Foursquare Church will keep its credentialed ministers apprised of pertinent election information, and this website will also be updated throughout the election season.

Absentee Voting

Credentialed ministers who are unable to attend Foursquare Connection 2019 can absentee vote in advance. Absentee balloting registration will begin by mail in late March with votes due in advance of convention. Check back in March for information on how to register for absentee balloting.

If you plan to absentee vote, we encourage you to make time to meet the candidates before you make a prayerful voting decision. All events will also be available to view online.

The Foursquare cabinet will meet in January 2019 and March 2019 to review credentialed minister nominations and determine the candidates for the office of president.

Bylaws section 7.1.2 - Procedures for Selecting the President: When the office of president has or will become vacant due to resignation, retirement, death, removal, expiration of the president’s term of office, or for any other reason, the Cabinet shall select candidates for the office of president as set forth in these Bylaws.

Yes, credentialed ministers may absentee vote for the office of president. Information on each candidate will be made available in advance of convention so that absentee voters can make an informed decision. Those attending Foursquare Connection 2019 in Nashville, Tenn., are highly encouraged to vote onsite.

To vote by absentee ballot, a minister must meet the following eligibility requirements:

Bylaws section 5.5: Members Entitled to Vote on Convention Business
 Licensed ministers of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel holding active status under the provision of these Bylaws and whose credential fees are paid current at the time the convention convenes or when an absentee ballot is requested. A minister whose credential fees are not current at the time the convention convenes or when an absentee ballot is requested will not be privileged to vote.

Convention delegates are able to vote onsite at Foursquare Connection 2019 in Nashville, Tenn. Only credentialed ministers can absentee vote.

The Foursquare bylaws are public and available for anyone to review. Section 7.1.2 includes all information regarding selecting a president. Section 11.1.3 states that the cabinet shall select candidates for the office of president. Section 5.5 references members entitled to vote on convention business. Section 5.9 references absentee voting for president.
